 I would love to say I want to build the student's vocabulary but at the Middle School age, social anxiety is very evident and kids can be mean.  I have students that have issues like this and will sit in a corner alone if I allow. Rather than feel some sort of way in their eyes.  In these cases, I will allow them to choose special friends and then assign another to ensure that all groups are able to learn the material.
