Mod. 13 Video discussion
The teaching approaches shown in the videos strongly connect to my work in a K–2 IND classroom, especially the emphasis on clearly communicating the purpose of learning. I always make sure students understand why they are doing an activity before we begin. When introducing a reading on a specific topic, I often show a short video beforehand to expose students to the content and build background knowledge.
Many of my students struggle with both reading and comprehension, so having prior knowledge to refer back to greatly benefits them and increases their engagement with the text. In my classroom, discussions look different than a typical general education setting. Instead of turn-and-talks, instruction is more teacher–student focused. I ask guiding questions and support students as they explain their thinking, helping them communicate their ideas more clearly. Moving forward, I plan to continue using visuals, videos, and guided questioning as key strategies to support understanding and meaningful learning.
