The strategies highlighted in Reading Rockets’ Interventions That Work directly apply to my own work with students, particularly those who struggle with reading comprehension, fluency, and foundational literacy skills. In my experience, many students benefit from targeted, research-based interventions that are explicit, scaffolded, and structured around their individual needs.

For example, I can use these strategies in small-group reading sessions by implementing interventions that focus on phonemic awareness or decoding for students who are behind in foundational skills. For students who struggle with comprehension, I can apply guided reading strategies that incorporate questioning, summarizing, and vocabulary-building, as suggested in the resource. These interventions allow me to tailor instruction to each student’s skill level while keeping them engaged and supported.

With teachers, I can model these strategies during professional development or coaching sessions, showing how to integrate interventions seamlessly into daily instruction. Teachers can learn to differentiate for multiple levels in the same classroom and use progress-monitoring tools to track growth over time.

Moving forward, I plan to adopt a similar approach by:

  • Integrating research-based interventions into small-group and whole-class instruction.

  • Using ongoing progress monitoring to adjust strategies for individual students.

  • Collaborating with teachers to ensure interventions are applied consistently across settings.

  • Building a repertoire of adaptable strategies that can support diverse learners, including struggling readers and those in inclusive classrooms.

By consistently applying these approaches, I can create a learning environment where every student has access to effective reading support, and teachers feel confident in implementing differentiated instruction.
