The purpose of not correcting students on their reading of words is for a multitude of reasons. First it does not help them pronounce words in the long run. Getting ahead and correcting students words without them trying may teach them that any hard words they come across will be pronounced for them. Correcting students may also discourage them. If a student or teacher rushes to correct another student when reading it may make them feel not capable. Encourage them to read slowly and sound out words slowly if they struggle. Encouraging the student after the attempt can go a long way too.
