The first step is to reach out to all parents to have conversations with them about the home culture. Ask what language is being used at home, if there is any cultural differences that I would need to know to ensure each student feels comfortable in my classroom environment. 

I then would make a power point with pictures and words to explain the importance of homework assignments and how it can be used as a benefit for each student in the classroom. Also have classroom expectations and reasons explaining why following classroom expectations is an important part of the daily routine. I would then post the first 9 weeks learning objectives for my students and parents to see as this can open up a dialogue of questions the parents may have. I would also allow time for questions parents and students may have but keep it to a time limit. Also on this presentation I would put my best contact information for the parents to have to reach out to me at any time if there are concerns.
