Reflection on Assignment 2
My planning process for this part of the assignment was to consider the demands of the standard along with my students cultural and ability levels. A concern of mine is that students won't annotate or take away the key details/aspects that will help them identify how text structure/features contribute to the meaning of a text.
The thing that took the most thought was planning for the cultural and linguistic bias as well as the culture as a factor in ELL. It's a little tricky for me because I want to make sure that I plan and prepare to help my ELL students but I haven't taught this benchmark before, so I have to rely on what I know about teaching ESOL/ELL students plus what I know about the benchmark to make the best judgment call about how to proceed with planning the lesson.
Outcomes for students are:
- they will be able to identify how text structure and text features contribute to the meaning of texts
- that they will understand the meaning of figurative language and unknown words and how they contribute to the meaning of texts.
