Mod 1 Discussion: Goals for This Course

My goals for the course:

1. Develop stronger cultural awareness and self-reflection skills. I want to become more conscious of my own ethnocentric attitudes and biases so I can respond to students and families with greater cultural sensitivity.

2. Learn concrete strategies for supporting ELLs in the classroom. My goal is to gather and practice scaffolding techniques, differentiation methods, and culturally relevant teaching practices that I can directly apply in my lessons.

3. Strengthen my ability to build partnerships with students and families. I’d like to learn ways to bridge cultural gaps, communicate expectations clearly, and involve families in meaningful ways that respect their cultural backgrounds.

By the end of this course, I hope to look back and see that I not only deepened my understanding of culture and education, but also gained practical strategies I can tranfer into my teaching.
