Mod 1 Discussion: Classroom Implications of Linguistic Theory
Mod 1 discussion
The Implication of Refraining from correcting students in Second Language classrooms is to avoid lowering the students' self-esteem and raising their anxiety. It is more important to focus on fluency than accuracy. If you correct them, you may suppress their desire to speak and take their focus away from communicating. Some Alternative ways to bring awareness to self-correction peer and self-assessment tasks. Pairing students with non- second language students and allow them to use a rubric to assess each other. Allowing the student to become reflective and competent language users in ways that make them feel comfortable and not embarrassed.
