I would want to build the student's vocabulary so he can interact socially. Helping the student feel more confident about being able to communicate and interact with peers is much more important to K-12 students, than worrying about what the academic vocabulary of period 6 is. Giving the student the confidence to interact with others, and the desire to return to school to be as engaged as he can be will, in my opinion, work out to everyones' advantage in the long run for this student.
