The two teachers co-teaching were well prepped an in synch with one another. One teacher seemed to be more focused specifically on the deconstruncting language (presenting cards with the vocab, showing the image of tenements and talking it through). Having a second adult in the room to administer, and even plan and prep the steps and tools being administered, is invaluable as a teacher. I have a ESE facilitator come into my room twice a week, and just their presence alone makes the difference. Let's not forget that that is a whole other set of eyes to monitor behavior and help manage the class, which has a compounding effect (at least for me, it feels like a relief). He comes to every 7th grade science collaborative planning session and helps provide materials, ideas. When we were dissecting pigs he even helped with the dissections for each class. My school does have ESOL teachers, but last year I did not see them much as the ELL's were put into a different teacher's roster. I did wind up with a couple intermediate language learners through various points in the year, but I want to step up my game and be more inclusive with the ESOL teachers like I am with the ESE department. Doing things more in advance, reaching out to them regularly, getting advice on prepping, and, if they wind up in my class rotation, be more collaborative within the class itself as well as implementing specific strategies. I really liked what they were doing with the pre and post assessment of the meanings of the texts they were reading within a two column graphic organizer. That one is going in my tool belt for sure.
