I really want to try assessing with tiered proficiency levels. Normally, when I do assessments, I approach it as a "it was right or it was wrong," while keeping an eye out for any consist mistakes that show where specific misconceptions exist. I have yet to think about the levels between meeting the standard or below standard. What do the proficiency levels in-between look like for my lessons standard? This would also be very worthwhile to compose for standards covering Nature of Science. While each unit covers a different subject in life science, NOS is meant to be consistently tackled throughout every step of each unit, so the rubrics could get a lot of mileage throughout the year. Having that rubric could help remediate anyone who struggles as well since I can communicate the learning targets more effectively.

I'm struggling to conceptualize interim assessments as something between summative and formative assessments. I understand that on paper, but functionally isn't that just reflecting on multiple summative assessments? Watching the video, I think I could say our science department quizes that we use to reflect on weak spots that need to be addressed, with our ultimate goal of using the quarterly DPMA's as the true formative assessment for each unit. I hope I am getting that right, but I think I may be just muddling the lines since my colleagues and I are in a constant state of reflection that its hard to distinquish one state of reflection from another, if that makes sense.
