I believe this student is  at a beginning level. I would  give them a summary of vocabulary in order to help them to enrich their sentences. For example, I would provide them a list of transition words to help them to connect ideas. Also, I will give them simple examples of paragraphs that they can use as a model to write their simple paragraphs. Practice and more practice.
