  1. Language as a system of learning: A language is a structure that allow you to communicate in a social environment: it is essential to learn how this system works in order to be able to communicate your needs.
  2. The relevance of including culture in your curriculum: culture is a part of the human being. It is necessary to take in consideration the culture of each of our students.
  3. Cultural sensitivity: it is essential to know the background of our students in order to be sensible to our student´s ideas.
  4. Home language and its relationship to a child's academic progress: We need to take in consideration the language level of our students when we build our lesson plans.
  5. Linguistic routines: It is important for our students to follow linguistic routines in order to gain the new knowledge.
  6. The impact of learning a 2nd language on all content areas: The learning of a second language impact other content areas because the language is the main point for communication.
  7. Scaffolding: It is necessary to break down the knowledge for our ELL students.
  8. High quality early childhood literacy: We need to take in consideration the literacy of our students.
  9. Structured speaking and listening: We need to practice these two elements daily with our students.
