Discussion: Final Reflection

I felt that this course was very helpful in order to gain knowledge about how I can be more sensitive when teaching in a multicultural classroom with ELL's. I learned about teaching theories, history, methods and their implementation, along with creating an esol lesson plan that I can directly use in my classroom. I learned that in order for students to learn English they need to feel comfortable and safe in a positive classroom environment. They need to listen repetitively to proper reading and syntax before trying it on their own. It is important to let students socialize with each other to allow them to develop their language at a realistic pace. Allow them to make errors without over correcting. I feel that I have gained skills that will help me create a successful classroom environment for all.
