I would recommend Literacy and writing for my colleagues especially when considering a VPK classroom. This is especially important when students are learning a new language for the first time while simultaneously experiencing their first year in school. For the little ones, its important for them to hear me read repetitively, expose them to books, teach them about the title author. Showing them how books are treated and used is important too. With writing I would touch on pre-writing, inquiry activities, and process writing. For pre-writing, I would use letters that students could trace by placing manipulatives on top. For example, a center with toy ants where they can place them on the letters A,B,& C, working up the alphabet. I would have writing scenters to scaffold the first center with dry erase markers and lined white boards. And finally a teacher table where we can write whole words.
