Stephen Krashen's Input Hypothesis appears relevant for my new student who is presently experiencing the "silent" stage of language learning. She absorbs language through careful listening which requires me to create an environment rich in understandable language input within the classroom. The teaching process will include extensive visual aids along with gestures and context clues to make my instruction understandable for her. Interactive read-alouds along with songs and storytelling will help engage her while strengthening her connection to the language. I’ll pair her with classmates who demonstrate the language and create a welcoming atmosphere during team activities to help her build interaction skills. I provide positive feedback every time she uses new vocabulary or phrases to strengthen her self-assurance. I will explore ways to provide learning resources in her native language and coordinate more interpreter support to enable better family involvement despite communication challenges with her parents. I plan to use Input Hypothesis strategies as a framework for improving her listening abilities and to gradually build her confidence to speak during class discussions. The method supports principles of creating print-rich settings and instructional scaffolding since both elements are essential to her educational development.
