Mod 2 Discussion: What the Research Means to Me

The findings from this study about ELL student performance are prompting me to reflect. The research shows that keeping students in specialized language classes alone is insufficient. Students need to engage in regular classes together with native English speakers.

Teacher training programs must undergo a significant transformation according to recent research findings. Teachers should develop the skills needed to support ELL students within our classrooms rather than depending on ESL teachers. The document emphasizes the need to integrate English language teaching throughout standard classroom subjects such as math, science, and history. The process of language learning needs integration into all activities we engage in.

The message now clearly demands school districts to redirect their educational priorities. The duration of a student's ELL status should not concern us as much as ensuring their placement in classrooms with native English speakers and capable teaching support. The goal should be to build an educational setting that welcomes students of all backgrounds to succeed, gain knowledge, and develop.
