Self-Assessment
Self Assessment
I am really learning a lot about the stages of language acquisition and how unfairly impatient I have been with an ELL in one of my classes. This was early on in the year and I have since grown more understanding as I've observed his progress. My student has come so far. His language acquisition has greatly improved. His writing is coming along slowly, but surely, but his conversational English is impressive considering where he was just a few months ago. I am gaining valuable knowledge and skills to be much more prepared to teach ELLs next year. What I find most helpful about this class aside from the strategies is being able to assess my student's speaking, reading and writing abilities and manage my expectations and goals for the student accordingly.
