Jin’s hesitation and difficulty with understanding the first two words of the prompt highlight that he may not yet fully grasp the language needed for the task. Even though he is making good progress in class, he may still struggle with reading comprehension in an exam setting, especially when faced with unfamiliar academic language.

My next step will to be to provide Jin with more opportunities to practice similar writing tasks beforehand. Introduce sample prompts and walk him through understanding them step by step. This will help him become more familiar with the language and format of writing exams.
