Mod 6 Discussion: Language Acquisition in a Cultural Context
Mod 6
I’ve learned that integrating language activities into a cross-curricular curriculum is a powerful way to reinforce morphological awareness, linguistic skills, and deepen understanding of culture. Using word study in context has been extremely helpful. You will need to introduce a “word of the week” in different subjects (e.g., science, history, literature) and explore its morphology (prefixes, suffixes, root words) alongside its meaning and etymology. You can also discuss the word’s cultural and historical significance, how it relates to the development of democratic systems in ancient Greece, and how different cultures have adopted or adapted these concepts.
