Scenario Response 5
Scenario 5 Response
The first lesson I would draw from Jin not understanding the meaning of the writing prompt is that perhaps I did not adequately prepare him to make the jump from the scaffolded writing assignments he had done in class to the test itself. Did I provide him with a test that reflected a differentiated approach as I had with his classwork. In other words, did I adapt the test to his level of comprehension. Perhaps he needs to hear the writing prompts read out loud for he feels comfortable in his understanding. Why did I not check on him to see if was having any difficulties since he was reading ONLY and not writing for 30 minutes? I would also need to compare the vocabulary in the writing prompts for the test to the vocabulary and text for the writing assignments he been completing successfully to see if there were any gaps. Perhaps Jin has a high degree of test anxiety, which would mean that he should be provided with extended time and the opportunity to take his test and a small table where I as teacher (or a teaching assistant) can read out loud the prompts to ensure both comprehension of the task at hand as well as any gaps in background knowledge.
