To better help students be confident and feel competent learners I build rapport with students and their families. Doing this has helped me to better understand cultural backgrounds/differences that can occur for students from another country. I will confirm the home language, country of origin for the correct dialect (words have different meanings per country of origin). I would label the classroom with students native language for the items used frequently and a part of the classroom rituals and routines. I will provide the student with a picture dictionary for curriculum vocabulary, use/refer to classroom anchor charts, while also using gestures and body language to help with comprehension. We will celebrate and respect the cultural differences of all students. They are what makes students unique individuals and become leaders in what they are good at.
