Mod 20 Discussion: Goals for This Course Revisited

Goals that I would like to work on:

1. Create an environment in the classroom where the students are able to understand and feel free to ask about each others cultures.
   *I feel that the feed back I have gotten from the kids has been positive. I have met this goal in my classroom and also out of the classroom. Talking to the students and understanding the struggles that they are in and being a big part of their success stories makes me proud to be a teacher. 
2. As a teacher be more aware of cultural differences not just with the student but also with the parents.

       * I keep this in mind when calling parents because the students are the first to come to school and tell me that they spoke with their mom regarding a phone call I made. Often times as teachers we make the phone call and not think of how that could get punished or disciplined at home. I try to make the phone calls of academic and leave the discipline one to the Dean. When talking to the parents you are aware of the attitude they give so I take this information with a grain of salt. 

     3. Understand and be more sensitive to each students learning style and and academic understanding of a lesson or learning material. 

*I have been more attentive to each students IEPs in the classroom and also, walking more around the classroom and keeping out for the students that are struggling with the work. I have made my Wednesday sheet called "let me tell you about yourself academically" and I tell them their progress individually. They even ask me when they come in Wednesday they expect it. it has become so popular that other teachers are using it.
