Scenario Response 1
Scenario 1
I would attempt to engage this student by introducing cognates and attempting to see if this sparks some interest. I would also try to find other things that this student is interested in as to derive more input from the student during our time together. I would employ: Brain-based theory which suggest that children learn in stages:
- Acquisition Versus Learning
- Natural Order
- Monitor
- Affective Filter
- Input.
This student monitors her environment and this has been observed extensively. Learning things that interest this student or making it a more comfortable environment by introducing familiar words from this students language could help them effectively engage in processing this new language and inspire more input. I would also ensure that we are using plenty of print and visual aids during the instructional period.
