As educators, it is imperative that we practice the virtue of "patience", as it takes 6 months - 2 years for ELLs to develop basic interpersonal language skills. My suggestion is to pair the ELL with 2 English speaking students. If possible, one of the 2 students would also speak the native language of the ELL. Students learn a profuse amount of language and information and from their peers.
