Outline for selecting non-textbook materials:

Current Process:

  • Identify what students need extra help with.
  • Look for new videos or online tools that match what students are learning.

Proposed Changes:

  • Make sure materials also help English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Talk with teachers and ELL specialists.
  • Choose materials that show different cultures.
  • Pick materials that work for students who speak different languages.
  • Make sure there are options for students at different levels.

Using the source Quill.org:

  • Give ELLs special tests.
  • Give them practice assignments to help them learn English.
  • Once they're good at English, let them take regular tests.

Outline for selecting textbooks for inclusive classrooms:

  • Check if it matches what Florida wants students to learn.
  • Make sure it talks about different cultures.
  • See if it helps students practice skills.
  • Make sure it's easy to read or can be made easier.
  • Look at the pictures and see if they will help students better understand the lessons.
  • Check if the words are hard or easy aka grade-level appropriate.
  • Make sure it's fair to all students.
