Obviously, it’s important to build the student’s vocabulary so that he feels more comfortable socially.  However, I feel that we should focus on building the student socially to make him more comfortable with speaking and gaining more vocabulary.  Without feeling comfortable socially, he would be less willing to interact with other students and therefore reduce his chances to gain more vocabulary from those other students.   The more that he communicates with others, the greater his vocabulary will grow.
