The best approach for this student is to raise this student's confidence and meet them at their level. I have another student who is similar to the scenario above. I began reading this student books, helping him read books that had pictures, making funny jokes about the books  when I teach and having him do an online platform for ELL learners. He still struggles with comprehension and has trouble paying attention during the reading lesson but the strategies I have been using have been helping him stay engaged and focused.
