The usage of explicit instruction, systematic vocabulary instruction, alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, read-a louds (with their reading level in mind) and parental involvement are all important factors that can assist a young student or even ELL's in better understanding the reading process.  

I try to incorporate all these strategies into my classroom on a daily basis.  Strengthening young readers should be every teacher's goals as they strive to create an awesome learning environment for their students.
