Mod 5 Discussion: Formal and Informal Assessments
Mod 5 discussion
One formative assessment that I have used in the past is a gallery walk. I have used this with both ELA and math. I found it to be successful because the students worked in collaboration with one another and helped each other if one student did not understand or made a mistake. If this happened, I could see which student was the "teacher" and "student".
After reading this text, I took away two methods that I will utilize moving forward. The first is Think Alouds . Our curriculum uses listening and learning and I feel like this will be helpful to stop at each segment and let the students process new content. Additionally, I will use the Frayer Model because the curriculum also teaches a lot of new vocabulary and I think this strategy will help with learning new content.
