I would say the Brain-Based Theory of acquisition fits this student the best. She is going through the silent stage as the scenario states but is starting to show growth beyond that first stage. The next steps I would take would be to facilitate more peer interactions within small groups in order for her to begin using her beginning confidence with the second language. I would also be sure to assess her understanding of the lessons being taught with plenty of yes/no questions and pointing to words/depictions of meanings.
