I would encourage and remind students to do their best and read at their own pace. Allowing them to pick books or other external reading material that pique their interest. Also make sure the classroom settings promote a healthy and comfortable reading atmosphere. I would also provide technology use the class for reading/listening to reading using teacher approved sites. Teachers can increase fluency of students when they are able model what it means to be fluent reader and promote repeated readings that are consistent. Fluency can also be increased when some of the text provided are poetry books that promote phrase reading. Allowing students to act out scripts using reader’s theater is also beneficial. Students will be able to learn how to read expressively and proper intonation. All these strategies and idea are essential for promoting fluent readers
