Mod 9 Discussion of my English Language Learners
Module 9
Some early literacy strategies appropriate for an inclusive classroom include visual supports and graphic organizers, vocabulary building with real-life objects, culturally relevant literature, collaborative story creation, dramatic play centers, and interactive word walls.
For cross cultural communication I would recommend visual supports and graphic organizers as well as interactive word walls. Visual aids, such as pictures, illustrations, and charts, can help ELLs grasp new vocabulary and concepts. Graphic organizers, like story maps or Venn diagrams, provide a structured framework for organizing thoughts and ideas, making it easier for ELLs to express themselves in writing or discussions. Interactive word walls in the classroom showcase new vocabulary from different cultures. They should include pictures or symbols alongside English words to support ELLs' comprehension. Teachers should also encourage students to add words from their native languages to the word wall, to promote cross-cultural communication and language sharing.
